Hidden deep in the desert above Kamloops sits a decaying megastructure frozen in time: Tranquille Sanatorium. 20 rotting buildings. One mile of pitch-black underground tunnels.
Built in 1907 as a final stop for tuberculosis patients, this massive complex later transformed into a mental hospital, an addiction center, and a nursing home before completely shutting its doors in 1984. Today, forty years later, it remains a haunting labyrinth of graffiti, crumbling walls, and unmarked graves on the hill.
What really happened inside the tunnels of Tranquille? Why was it left to rot in the Canadian desert? We dive into the dark history of British Columbia’s most infamous abandoned landmark.
