There is a place where you can stand in today and look directly at tomorrow. It’s not science fiction. It’s completely real.
Separated by just two miles of ocean water, Big Diomede and Little Diomede are two islands with one of the strangest anomalies on Earth. Because the International Date Line runs directly between them, Big Diomede (Russia) is a staggering 21 hours ahead of Little Diomede (USA, Alaska). In the freezing winter, the water between them turns to solid ice, technically creating a frozen bridge where you could walk from America to Russia—and straight into yesterday.
In this video, we explore the eerie, fascinating reality of the Diomede Islands, the closed frozen border, and what it’s like to look out your window and see a completely different day.
