At first glance, this bed looks like it’s defying gravity. No legs, no posts—nothing touching the floor except its own shadow. But underneath the minimalist design lies a heavy-duty secret.
The secret to this illusion is a custom cantilever frame hidden entirely inside the wall. Using 4-inch steel square tubes welded into a T-shape and secured directly to the wall studs, this bed is built like a tank.
In this video, I break down the engineering behind floating furniture. From mitered wooden edges that hide the gaps to stress-testing the frame with 300 pounds of weight plates, you’ll see exactly how steel and physics turn a illusion into a rock-solid reality.
