Bradian: The Ghost Town That Refuses to Disappear

0

Hidden in the mountains near Lillooet lies Bradian, a ghost town that refuses to disappear. While most abandoned mining towns crumble into dust, Bradian came back to life.

🏔️ HISTORY: Bradian was built in 1934 to house miners working at the Bralorne Mine, one of the richest gold mines in North America. At its peak, over 400 people lived here.

⛏️ COLLAPSE: The mine closed in 1971. The miners left. Bradian became a ghost town.

🔄 REVIVAL: Unlike most ghost towns, Bradian’s buildings did not rot away. In the 1990s, artists and retirees started moving back. They bought old houses for pennies and renovated them.

👥 TODAY: Around 30 people live in Bradian year round. The town has electricity, running water, and internet. The Bralorne Mine even reopened in 2017 for small scale mining.

🚗 VISITING: Two hour drive from Whistler on a rough gravel road. Closed in winter. No hotels, no restaurants, no gift shops. Just a quiet hillside where past and present live side by side.

Most ghost towns die and stay dead. Bradian came back.
