The Ancient Japanese Secret to Making Paper Harder Than Oak

0

This is not wood. This is paper. Discover the ancient Japanese art of Washi Lamination, where delicate paper is transformed into a material as hard as oak.

In this video, I explore the traditional technique of layering Japanese washi paper (made from kozo/mulberry bark) using wheat starch glue. By stacking and pressing 50 sheets of paper, the fibers bond to create a solid, durable mass that can be sanded, carved, and polished just like wood. The final piece is waterproof, food-safe, lightweight, and beautifully sustainable.
