I Finally Tried Chicko Chicken… Here’s What Happened π
Chicko Chicken is a BC-based Korean fried chicken chain with 30+ locations and a 4.8-star rating. After seeing it EVERYWHERE in Metro Vancouver, I had to see what the hype was about.
SPOILER: The hype is REAL! π±
Why Everyone’s Talking About It:
π₯ It’s EVERYWHERE
30+ BC locations means you’re never far from crispy Korean chicken. Major locations include:
Vancouver (Robson Street, Kingsway)
White Rock (Johnston Road)
Richmond (near Aberdeen Centre)
Burnaby (Kingsway, Edmonds)
Surrey (Fleetwood)
Coquitlam
Plus 23+ more across BC!
β 4.8 Star Rating Across ALL Locations
Hundreds of five-star reviews. Customers keep coming back for the crispy batter, juicy meat, and fresh-made quality.
What Makes Korean Fried Chicken Different?
If you’ve only had regular fried chicken, Korean fried chicken will BLOW YOUR MIND! Here’s why:
β
Double-Fried Technique: Creates extra crispy coating that stays crunchy WAY longer than regular fried chicken
β
Lighter Batter: Thinner, crispier coating (not thick and heavy)
β
Bold Sauces: Korean sauces have complex flavors you won’t find at KFC or Popeyes
β
Always Fresh: Made to order, never sitting under a heat lamp
What I Ordered & Honest Review:
π HALF & HALF CHICKEN (Most Popular!)
This is GENIUS! You get to choose TWO flavors in ONE order. Perfect for indecisive people (me!) or trying multiple styles.
I got:
Yangyeom (μλ
): Sweet and spicy Korean chili sauce. Sticky, glossy, perfectly balanced heat. NOT too spicy but has a kick. This is the CLASSIC Korean fried chicken flavor and I totally get why it’s popular!
Soy Garlic (κ°μ₯λ§λ): Savory, garlicky, slightly sweet. NO spice. Honestly? I couldn’t stop eating this one. The garlic flavor is STRONG but not overwhelming. Perfect for garlic lovers!
π§ CHEESE SNOW CHICKEN
Okay, this sounds WEIRD but HEAR ME OUT! It’s crispy fried chicken dusted with fine cheese powder (think Cheetos dust but fancier). The salty cheese + savory chicken = ADDICTIVE! My friend was skeptical but ended up finishing most of it! π
π SHAKE SHAKE FRIES
Regular fries tossed in… you guessed it… MORE cheese powder! These are DANGEROUS. Crispy, salty, cheesy perfection. They pair SO WELL with the chicken!
The Experience:
β±οΈ 15-20 Minute Wait: Everything is made fresh to order. YES, you have to wait, but it’s WORTH IT! The chicken comes out piping hot and crispy. Pro tip: Call ahead or order through the app!
π¦ Takeout Quality: I drove 15 minutes home and the batter was STILL crispy! The packaging keeps everything fresh.
π§ Juiciness Level: The meat was SO JUICY! Even the boneless pieces were thick and tender. No dry chicken here!
π§ Flavor: The sauces are BOLD! Korean flavors hit different than American fried chicken seasonings.
Portion Sizes & Pricing:
Half Chicken: Feeds 1-2 people (~$18-22)
Whole Chicken: Feeds 3-4 people (~$30-38)
Average Cost: $15-25 per person with sides
Honestly? Good value for the quality and portion size!
Popular Customer Orders:
Based on reviews and what people were ordering while I was there:
Half & Half: Yangyeom + Soy Garlic (can’t go wrong!)
Cheese Snow Chicken + Shake Shake Fries (commit to the cheese!)
Original with sauce on the side (for dipping!)
Pro Tips:
π± Download the App: Earn points on every order = FREE chicken eventually!
β° Best Time to Go: Weekday lunch = no wait. Weekends = expect crowds!
πΆοΈ Spice Levels: Yangyeom = mild-medium. Soy Garlic = no spice. Original = your choice of sauce!
π₯‘ Takeout Hack: Order ahead through the app to skip the wait
πΊ Pairing: In Korea, fried chicken + beer = “chimaek” (μΉλ§₯). Try it!
Why Chicko Chicken is Popular in BC:
Started as a small BC chain and grew to 30+ locations because:
β
Consistent quality across all locations
β
Fresh ingredients and traditional Korean cooking
β
Rewards program keeps customers coming back
β
Authentic flavors appeal to Korean community + everyone else
β

Is It Worth The Hype?
